You Are O.K. And You Will Make It!

It is late on Saturday night after another 70+ hour week doing what I absolutely love, construction accounting helping contractors achieve their definition on success.
For some contractors success is accumulating wealth, for others it is freedom and for others it is to fulfill a calling from deep within themselves.
This week was not much different than any other, early to bed, early to rise know your numbers and advertise. Yet this week I was moved by what I like to identify as The Universe to be more aware of what I like to call the "Blah, Blah, Blah, White Noise, Radio Static" gushing from the internet like a broken water main with no hope of repair in sight.
Several decades ago business owners were flooded with paper junk mail and traveling salesman going door-to-door offering to solve the business owner's most pressing problems for a minor investment.
One thing has never changed there always seems to be a limitless supply of "Idea Men and Idea Women" who are quick to tell construction contractors what you are doing wrong instead of what you are doing right!
They have lots of ideas to get your construction company on the right track and some ideas that can even make the sun shine, the birds sing and money flow into your lap and all your problems melt away like a snowball in the hot desert sun. All you have to do is add money.
Everything works fine until you wake up and figure out the dream of fun times and easy money is in fact an expensive nightmare.
Well, for what it is worth I have attended more seminars, bought more bridges, fools gold, diamond mines, pie in the sky, how-to-books, tapes, CD's, DVD's and get rich quick schemes than anybody else I know.
The good news is the real education was learning there is no shortcuts and every overnight success is preceded by years of hard work, determination, massive mistakes, pushing past the outer limits of my comfort zone that I now refer to it as my extremely discomfort zone.
The big lesson arrived when I understood that in the end everything always works out and if anything has not worked out it is not the end.
Please believe me when I say The Universe is Friendly and It wants you to Be, Do and Have more than you can possible imagine.
Be - The person of integrity, do the right thing even when you think nobody is watching. Dream big dreams
Do - The work, state your intentions and put your attention on acquiring your dreams. Know that most of what you do will appear to be a complete waste of time and effort and lost cause. Just know everything happens for a reason and that reason is there to serve you. Trust The Process and Trust The Universe, It Knows what is best. Some of my greatest failures are the best things that ever happened to me because they helped remove bloated nothingness and taught lessons of humility. Now when I feel great and powerful I go next door and order the neighbor's dog around...that is a humbling experience...LOL!
Have - The results. When the farmer plants seed of wheat they know in due time they will reap a great harvest of wheat. It could be that a season or two or more may go by without results; however, they understand and live by the Laws of The Universe. You will be rewarded.
It does not matter how long you have been in business, how many times you have failed, won or lost it only matters that as long as you are breathing and blinking get up, dust yourself off and get back in the game.
Only a small fraction of us have been blessed with the talent of owning and operating businesses and there are a lot of people who desperately need to belong and be a part of a winning team of people who add value to the world.
As I write this article America is in a strange time when some of our leaders feel it is alright to blame somebody else, shirk responsibility and re-distribute the wealth, not the work or the risk or the responsibility, just the wealth.
People in business or leadership roles who shirk responsibility and blame others are not worthy of our respect which is why we dismiss them and do not hold them to any standard whatsoever. No worries this world belongs to them and they have the right to do as they please.
When I get a bit frustrated I remember a particular quote from the best-selling book of all time The Basic Instructions Before Leaving Earth "This too shall pass".
Every successful contractor and business owner, men and women that I have ever had the honor and the privilege to know hold themselves to a very high standard and they NEVER blame anyone else for anything. They get upset and say a few things and vent frustrations; however, the conversation always ends up with the understanding we need to do our best and let Karma, The Universe, Whatever you call it, take care of the rest.
If I have offended anyone please accept my sincere apologies and understand that I am simply passionate about the game of life and the construction industry. I hold myself to a very high standard; I fail regularly, and pick myself up and go again.
I will do everything in my power to BE, DO and HAVE all that I have been called to do and in the end leave this world a little bit better for having passed through it.
I know that only a few contractors and other good people will gain value from this article and it may be in a day a week or in several years from now. If you are one of them you will know it because you will be inspired and feel a well-spring of hope and understanding deep inside which will drive you forward to BE, DO and HAVE all that you have called to do and in the end leave this world a little bit better for having passed through it.
